About The Story

In this heartwarming tale, siblings Ravi and Rani eagerly anticipate the annual Doll Festival (Golu)—a cherished tradition unique to South India, where families arrange tiered displays of dolls during the Navratri season. When their mother falls ill and their father is away, the children worry the celebration will be forgotten. But instead of giving in to disappointment, they take it upon themselves to set it up as a surprise for Amma. Their spirited act not only keeps the tradition alive but also lifts their mother's spirits. Interestingly, Golu finds a rare cultural parallel only in Japan’s Hinamat suri, the Doll Festival celebrated by families there—showing how different cultures share similar threads of beauty and belonging.
